Yesterday was International Women’s Day. Every woman views that day in a different way. Some of them have stories from their grandmothers that have inspired them, some did not show up for work in protest, and then there are others. Others that never truly take a day off. They hustle hard, they go after their goals, they raise families, and they own some of the most prestigious businesses in our area. That is who I am representing today, these women who have made a drastic difference in my career and my life. I simply cannot say enough about them.
Adair Currie, Owner of Dairing Events in Jacksonville, Florida
If you have yet to met or hear of Adair Currie, you are surely missing out. This fabulous and vivacious woman has set a new bar for wedding planning and event design not only in our region, but around the country. She’s fearless for what she believes in and she has created some of the most breathtaking events I have ever seen. I met Adair 4 years ago when she planned my best friends wedding. I had already started TEG but my God, how I fell at her feet. She commands a presence and she was so willing to give advice to someone she barely knew and she wasn’t ever caddy towards me. My first year of business she sent me 8 brides. 8 people, EIGHT! That is huge for someone who is starting out to have a referral like that. She helped me build a worthy portfolio and now that TEG is four years old I consider her my mentor. We now text each other about venues and questions, ( I mostly have the questions, lol) and now she has the cutest baby girl for us to talk about. Shout out to my fabulous Adair Currie!
Tasha Peters, Owner of By Design Catering in St. Augustine, Florida
Have you ever met a woman and then instantly thought, “That woman is my soul-sister!”? That is what Tasha does for me. Besides the fact that she owns a catering company which makes her a badass anyway. I mean a woman that can do it all and kicks butt at cooking, I want to be her! She lights up any room that she is in and she is absolutely hilarious. We have had many chats about the struggles we face in our industry and I know she is always a safe place to come to. I always know that my couples are getting the absolute best with her and By Design and outside of work, she cares about the people around her. She cares about my family, my children, my health, and my well being. There is a lot to be said about a woman who is that strong and has a heart that big. You keep on rockin’ Tasha Peters!
Lindsay Ohlin, Owner of Coastal Celebrations, Weddings by Lindsay Ohlin
We have all heard of that new phrase “Community over Competition”. It is a very easy thing to preach but not practice. I remember riding bikes with my husband 7 years ago and seeing Coastal Celebrations on the back of Lindsay’s back window. I said, “Wow, she is really making that happen.” I watched her move into a store front and then a bigger one. Now, she is probably on of the biggest badasses I know. From one planner to another, that woman has it GOING ON! I am so proud of her growth and so happy I never let being a new business owner keep me from introducing myself to her. We are a pretty tight group down here in St. Augustine. The industry as a whole is warming and you will find multiple vendors in the same field grabbing drinks and bouncing ideas off of each other. Well, she brought me out of a pretty dark place. I made the leap to commit myself to making TEG big and making it my only job. It was terrifying. So, I picked up the phone and asked if I could meet with her because she had been in that start up place before. She welcomed me with open arms and I took up two hours of her time, with things that I am sure she did not need to take the time to hear. That is what changes people. That is what makes our industry great, and that will always hold a special place in my heart. You are a badass Lindsay Ohlin!
Bethany Walter, Owner of Bethany Walter Photography
There are struggles we all face when we feel like we do too much. Being a business owner is daunting. Being a business owner, with three kids, and having a husband that works insane hours? Daunting doesn’t even cut it. This woman takes it in stride. She’s my shining light when I have my bouts with depression and feel like my world is caving in. I am her crazy and loud friend that got her to be more lively at networking events. If you haven’t met her, its because she’s being quiet in a corner! Every quiet girl needs a loud best friend 🙂 Her talent is amazing and I love when I get to work with her. She has taught me a lot about graciousness and faith. I am honored to know her and to cross paths with her in my career. Keep shining my sweet Bethany Walter!
There are so many amazing women in our industry. I have worked with and met them and they are a force to be reckoned with. We go to work, we bust our butts, we raise our families, and we really do it all. I am so proud to be your colleague and to walk beside you all in this crazy life!
